PLEASE join us for our “Spring Fling” benefit dinner/auction at the wonderful Granary Restaurant on Saturday, March 20, 2010–the FIRST DAY OF SPRING!  This event is re-scheduled from a pre-Valentine’s Day 2/13 date that we had to cancel due to the horrible snows in Cecil County.

   Our Spring Fling dinner/auction will be held at The Granary restaurant, 79 George St., Georgetown, MD (right off Route 213) beginning at 5:30 PM on March 20, 2010.  There will be a WONDERFUL  buffet dinner, as only The Granary can do, for $60 per person.  (Remember, this is a charity event and your tickets are tax-deductible, as the SPCA is a registered 501(c)3 charity.)

   There will be silent auction tables with LOTS of interesting services, gift certificates and gifts available for bidding.  And we will have a great LIVE auction of antiques, collectibles (including vintage HUMMEL figurines), signed artwork, decoys,  quilts,  sailboat replicas,  and fabulous landscaping/plant services from Moon Nurseries!!!

TIMMY

   It is with great sadness that FOXY and all the humans and animals  at the CCSPCA learned of the passing of Timmy, a black Lab who came to the shelter as a puppy and was adopted by an Earleville family, despite the fact that he was born blind and with handicapped legs due to a genetic birth defect.  Timmy and his big brother, Runner, who is also a CCSPCA ‘graduate,’  were long time donors to the shelter and created a special fund to help provide medical care to the shelter animals. (Well, they got their parents to write the checks in their names.)

     Timmy was 9 years old when he went to the Rainbow Bridge, after a brief but brave struggle with a rare form of cancer.  Over the years, Timmy had two surgeries on his handicapped legs and had one eye removed due to glaucoma,  but he never let his disabilities get him down.  He could always find his toy basket, where his many stuffed “babies” were kept, and had his house mapped out in his head even if he couldn’t see it.

   His mom says that Timmy was an inspiration to everyone who met him. No one could feel sorry for themselves and worry about their petty problems when Timmy, who had so many problems to overcome, was so full of love for everyone he met and never whined about his limitations.

   Timmys family– big brother Runner, Mom, and Dad– would like to thank everyone at the CCSPCA for the wonderful care they gave Timmy as a puppy and for giving him the love, and time, to find his forever family. The family believes that at any other shelter, given Timmy’s multiple handicaps, he would not have been given the chance to find a loving forever home.

    Memorial donations in Timmy’s memory may be made to the Runner and Timmy Fund at the CCSPCA, to help provide medical care to the animals. Mx. FOXY models her New Year's tiara

     Happy New Year from Ms. FOXY, the Divine Diva Dog and blogger from the Cecil County SPCA. Thanks to my many fans for bringing me several tiaras to wear for my New Year’s date. I tried on the white feathered one, and the sparkly, jeweled one, but finally decided on this one because it is pretty obvious, like MOI: it says “Happy New Year” and that says it all!

   Many thanks to some really special humans who have helped to make the holidays bright for all the dogs and cats at the CCSPCA shelter.  We really enjoyed the  turkeys that were so generously provided by Food Lion in Elkton and Middletown, DE., and the Giant store in Middletown! The staff humans at the shelter baked them up for us and we had enough for Thanksgiving, Christmas and some leftovers for New Year’s Day!

  Then there were some great families who opened their hearts to the animals in this holiday season with donations and gifts to help the cats and dogs have a happy holiday.  Here’s FOXY’s thank you card:

The shelter feeds us really tasty, nutritious dry food most of the time. But some of the new kids, and those who are a bit under the weather, needs the nice smelly “wet” food to entice them to eat. Especially at this time of year, when some of our dogs and cats have been given up by their humans who could no longer afford to keep them or lost their homes, a little extra food or treats helps lift their spirits.

The open cat room is really full of felines right now and some of the kitties have been arguing over which toy belongs to which kitty. So if some nice Elves could bring them some more cat toys, there would be peace on earth–at least in the cat room.

A nice man came to the shelter the other day and made a cash donation to help the animals as a Christmas gift for a family member. The shelter humans gave him a little stuffed ”Clifford the Red Dog” along with the gift card to wrap and put under the tree! Now wouldn’t that be a nice, last-minute gift or stocking stuffer for someone in your family who loves the animals?

The shelter will be closing at noon on Thursday, Dec.24, Christmas Eve and will re-open to the public at 8:30 a.m. on Monday Dec. 28.

To all my fans, both furry and human, FOXY wishes you Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanza, Happy New Year and whatever holiday you and your family celebrate. May your dogs and cats have a nice warm home, full food dishes, and new toys to play with. And hugs and love to make the season bright…

Harley Dog

   The costumes were howlin’ good at the CCSPCA Howl-o-ween party.  Many thanks to Cheryl Deal, photographer extraordinaire, for sharing her super shots of the shenanigans at the shelter with Ms. Foxy’s blog! (And Ms. Foxy apologizes for being so slow to update this blog–had some health problems due to the bad leg but doing fine now.)

   Harley Davidson biker dog–with goggles,too– scooted around the shelter. And the Little Mermaid dog swam around the place looking for some fishy-flavored treats. And then Rooster Dog  crowed all over, treat-a-doodle-do, until some eggy flavored biscuits were found! Lots of fun! (And Ms. Foxy did indeed wear a tiara but was too camera shy to record that outfit for posterity.)

The black cats in the cat room are very busy getting ready for their favorite holiday, Halloween. In the kennels, they call it HOWL-O-WEEN, since the dogs can’t resist any excuse to let loose with a good howl.

Come join the animals for our Howl-o-ween fest at the CCSPCA shelter, on Route 213 in Chesapeake City, MD on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 am to 1 pm for a howlin’ (and meowin’) good time!  There will be cider and treats for the humans and lots of fun for all!

There will be contests and prizes for the best pet costume and best human costume! (Dogs must be on leashes for our outdoor festivities.) Inside the shelter, humans are welcome to visit and bring cat and dog treats for the shelter residents.

And the cats in the open cat room have put together a bunch of neat books about cats  and Halloween for a special story time! No, the cats can’t read, but they’d really like kids to come and read to them, or maybe just listen and look at the pretty pictures in their storybooks. The cats here are very social and love to meet and greet visitors.

MOMMA, guest blogger and senior citizen cat

The cats in the open cat room here at the CCSPCA have been demanding equal time on this blog. So here’s a post from a ‘guest blogger’– Momma, a gray cat of a certain age….Love, FOXY

HI! I’m Momma, a resident feline at the CCSPCA who is looking for a forever home. I delivered a litter of kittens right after I came here as a stray. All my babies were adopted but I’m still here. I’ve taken some of the other youngsters in the cat room under my paws and given them a mother’s love until they, too, found families to live with.

There are quite a few of us older guys and gals in the cat room who would make really great companions for senior citizens of the human variety.

So for the month of October, senior citizens age 65 and over can adopt a senior cat for FREE! All of us felines have been spayed/neutered, have all our shots and have been tested for various nasty diseases– which we don’t have!

Senior humans, come visit us older cats and take one of us home for free!

Dave, the UPS guy, and FOXY

OK,  I told you all a while ago that I LOVE a guy in uniform, especially a brown UPS uniform. So here is a picture of Moi, Ms. FOXY, and Mr. Dave, the UPS guy who is the love of this canine’s life.

He always brings me treats, scratches my pointy ears and tells me how beautiful I am. (Listen up, human guys!  You should do the same, and your Lady will love you, too! But don’t tell her she has pointy ears…)

Dave the UPS guy brings treats to the other dogs at the shelter, too.  When that brown truck pulls into the parking lot, there a lot of very happy canines around here. Thanks, Dave. UPS is lucky to have such a great guy working for them.

Marley

The kennels are buzzing with gossip about our resident LoverBoy– Marley– and his latest lady love, Daisy. Seems that Mr. Marley has quite the eye for the ladies and it didn’t take him long to get over the departure of his former lady friend, Margaret!

Marley has been here a while.  He is a very energetic guy and so far he hasn’t caught the eye of an adoptive family. When he first got here, he didn’t seem to like other dogs, boys or girls.  But then came Miss Margaret and we all learned that Marley was just a lonely boy and all he really wanted was a lady friend.

So after a proper courtship, Margaret moved in with Marley and they set up housekeeping in one of the large kennels. They played nicely together and we even saw some sweet doggie kisses when they thought the rest of us weren’t looking.  Ain’t love grand?

But recently Margaret, a very sweet lady with a heart of gold, found her ‘forever family’ and went to live with her new humans. They couldn’t take Marley, too, so he was left behind. He was a very sad boy and moped around the place. We all felt sorry for him.

But then Daisy arrived and Marley was in love again!  His ears perked up and he even seemed to be smiling. Marley was on his best behavior and convinced Daisy that he should be her special friend. They seem to be very much in love!

Can some nice human family that believes in love come and visit Marley and Daisy and give them both a forever home?  They have a lot of love to give a family, too.

UPDATE: Marley and Daisy split up after Marley kept eating all her food. A girl needs a good meal more than she needs a guy! AND MARLEY GOT ADOPTED in early December by a lovely lady who lives in southern Cecil County! All the girl dogs hope she will bring Marley back for a visit once in a while so they can flirt with him! (Just don’t let him near the girls’ food dishes.)
